Has harry potter gone out of control?

i mean there are like a million stories on harry potter fan fiction. how many fans claim to be in love with harry potter/daniel radcliffe? people are buying Harry potter merchandise. that means wands and brooms. i heard that J.K rowling has made like 100 million pounds just by selling Harry potter merchandise. is this sensible? harry potter is fiction. brooms do not fly and there are no magic wands. i believe that the whole harry potter craze has gone out of control. am i right?
