Need Advice For A Friend?

One of my friends recently met an older woman. He's 24 and she's 33. They hit it off fairly quick. They spoke for a couple of weeks and then started dating. They went on a few dates and had a couple of times. He really liked her. She broke up with her ex boyfriend a few weeks before they started talking. She told her ex that she was seeing someone new and he went ballistic. He threatened suicide and was admitted to the hospital for psychiatric treatment. Shortly after she told him through a text message that she needed space and time now. She wanted to spend time with her ex at the hospital. Her ex treated her very harshly in their relationship. So bad that her own parents wouldn't welcome him into their home. My friend treated her like a princess and she said she appreciated that and wanted to build a relationship with him. A few days after she told him she needed space he sent her a text message and told her if she needed anything he would be there for her. She told him to stop contacting her otherwise she would start getting mean about it. His birthday ped yesterday and she didn't even wish him a happy birthday. He still wants to pursue a relationship with her but I keep telling her she's a worthless piece of crap and needs to move on. In my mind..she was just playing him. Any advice is appreciated!
