If you hit a heater or furnace what happens?

I hit my furnace with a tennis ball fairly hard when i was playing baseball in my basement. It seems normal and all but is there any chance a harmful chemical can get released into the air? Such as carbon monoxide? FYI i was playing with a tennis ball.
